25. Chinese Dinner Service

Katz Floral Studio
Andrew Katz

2025 installation - Serving Room

The Inspiration

The Andersons’ china included these porcelain plates from a dinner service in a Chinese rose medallion pattern made in the mid-late nineteenth century.

The Flowers

Florist’s inspiration: A range of floral choices based on the ornamental floral imagery. Tones of pinks, various greens and oranges, as well as specific flowers such as peonies and blooming magnolia.

Recipe: In my creative process, I took notes from the colors, visual language and movement within the botanical imagery of these plates. My goal in this arrangement was to play off of the line work, types of flowers present, and the general nature of the ornamentation framing the imagery. Ultimately I wanted to create something that feels like it could exist within the same decorative visual language that's present within these pieces.
