9. Society of the Cincinnati Mural

2025 installation - Key Room

The Inspiration

The first allegorical mural in the Key Room depicts the founding of the Society of the Cincinnati at the end of the American Revolution. The mural was painted by H. Siddons Mowbray in 1909.

The Flowers

Florist’s inspiration: I was so inspired by the Key Room Mural that depicts George Washington’s induction of the Marquis de Lafayette into the Society of the Cincinnati. It symbolizes the power of alliance, mutual respect and commitment to the ideals of the Society which honor those who fought in the American Revolution.

Deep red roses symbolizes the patriots’ sacrifices during the American Revolution. Federal Blue Delphinium represents the uniforms of loyal soldiers and leaders like Washington and Lafayette. Heart of Gold Roses honor the valor of those who served our country. Laurel Leaf Cocculus echoes the laurel wreath in the mural, signifying honor, triumph and dedication to American Independence.

Recipe: Freedom and Born Free Red Roses, Heart of Gold antique gold Roses and Laurel Leaf Cocculus.
