DJones_AIB 2021-20.jpg

Inspiration Description:

My piece is inspired by the bookshelves in the library and my love of reading and flowers and their timeless appeal. The piece will reflect the linear quality of the books and shelves along with the colors of the books.

Art Description:

Description: Anderson’s book collection

Artist/Creator: various publishers

Date of Creation: late nineteenth to early twentieth century

Location: first floor, Library

The shelves of the library on the first floor of Anderson House hold books that belonged to Larz and Isabel Anderson, who lived in the house from 1905 to 1937. The titles reflect the Andersons’ literary interests and world travels, and most volumes bear one of two of their personalized bookplates. Their bookplate design was created using an image of their beloved garden at Weld.

Uncloudy Studio, Jolie Joswick Bio:

I was once told by an art teacher that I had an obvious sympathy for vegetation.

My passion for floral design began over twenty years ago in a greenhouse in a small Michigan town, traveled through the mountains of Colorado and Arizona, to the beaches of Southern California, settling in Washington, DC. An education in graphic design has helped to sharpen my attention to detail and given me an eye for color and composition.

I find inspiration from all growing things, in the beauty and texture of flowers, fruits, herbs and foliage. I’m fascinated with color and delight in combining the unexpected, foraging for the new and unusual, finding grasses, branches or berries on a walk with my daughter and dreaming of ways I can use them in my next design. I love all things lush, vintage, organic and natural. I enjoy spending personal time with each of my clients, getting to know them and their vision and bringing it to life with flowers.
