Petal’s Edge - FRONT ENTRANCE AND DOORWAY, DESIGNED BY HERBERT BROWNE AND ARTHUR LITTLE, CA. 1902-1905

Florist’s inspiration: Grand in its own way, the exterior of Anderson House is a study in light and dark. The pale stone contrasts with the darkness of the door, wrought iron around the exterior lights, and the window bar tracery above
the doorway. Shadow play is created in the spaces be-

tween the stones and moldings. The intent of our piece is to blend into the façade’s natural surroundings while simultaneously animating and extending the movement created by the shapes and textures already present. And in the same way that a building’s materials are in- tended to convey solidity and permanence, we used dried materials that add more permanence than typical floral elements which are more ephemeral.

Recipe: Natural pampas grass, bleached gypsophila, ruscus, amaranthus, fern, dried cattails
