Florist’s inspiration: My inspiration blossoms from
Bang Yongguk’s motivational words: “Life is like a piano.
The white keys represent happiness and the black keys
show sadness. But as you go through life’s journey, re-
member that the black keys make music as well.” Having
played when I was young, his words struck a chord, and I
immediately knew I wanted this message brought to life
in my arrangement. I incorporated themes of happiness
and sadness. Ferns and amaranths symbolize youth and
vibrancy, anemones and bamboo tie to loss and death.
The stark contrast of white and black imitate the keys of the piano, happiness and sadness. Insomuch as both are interconnected, I included flowers which blend these emotions, which added to the monochromatic tone. Calla lilies are renowned for their mixed connota- tion of life and death, an interpretation shared by moth orchids. They intertwine the final, romantic meaning that life, regardless of its black and white keys, is beautiful.
Recipe: Anemones, bleach fern, calla lilies, anthurium, phalaenopsis orchids, bamboo , amaranth, palm leaves
