Settee with a Bird Scene

Florist’s Interpretation

Inspired by the plumage of the birds in the Avian Bench Painting, we wanted to mimic the fluffy feathers and create a full, lush arrangement that is playful in nature to match the birds' personalities. Mixing dark tones and light highlights, our piece is an homage to the natural world and the wonderful range of characters within it.

Settee with a Bird Scene

The back panel of this Louis XV-style wooden settee is decorated with a scene of domestic fowl painted in the manner of Melchior d’Hondecoeter, a seventeenth-century Dutch artist who almost exclusively painted birds. It features a peacock, rooster, hens, and chicks next to a classical urn, all framed by gilded scrollwork.

“We work with in-season flowers sourced from a number of local, women-owned farms throughout the spring, summer and fall. When winter comes we do our best to work with American-grown blooms.”
