- SECOND FLOOR DINING ROOM, IMARI PUNCH BOWL, MADE IN JAPAN, MID-18TH CENTURY

Photographed by Sarandon Smith Photography

Florist’s inspiration: This decadent Japanese punch bowl is eye- catching with rich color, and intricate depictions of real and myth- ical creatures. Influential flowers and patterns cover the porcelain with a timeless elegance, rooted in Japanese history and culture. These symbols weave a theme of harmony, balance, longevity, roy- alty and everlasting love, with an emphasis on Chrysanthemum flowers (the Imperial Family Emblem.) My floral design features an Ikebana style vase with a contemporary design approach. The mod- ern "frog" and vessel allowed me to thoughtfully select individual blooms and elements, highlighting color, culture, and some but- terflies. I’ve created an aesthetic of traditional and fantastical fu- sion. Can you spot the Japanese Emperor Caterpillar?

Recipe: Chrysanthemum, blooming branch, green hellebore, gar- den rose, delphinium, mokara orchid, lotus flower pod.
